Eugenio Romerica Abunda Jr., or popularly named as Tito Boy Abunda, is one of the most famous and influential personalities. Tito Boy is known as a television host, publicist, talent manager, and celebrity endorser. Previously, never before seen photos of Tito Boy and his long-time boyfriend named Bong Quintana arose in the internet. The pictures show their memories in different places they have been to. In these photos, the happiness, chemistry, and love are truly seen in their eyes. The beautiful love story of Tito Boy and Bong is really interesting to know about.
Being crowned as a beauty queen is Tito Boy’s childhood dream. At an early age, he sincerely knew about himself and has accepted his gender.
Tito Boy described his father as an “extremely macho” man. He also said, “I also lived in a town that was extremely, extremely macho, including the women. Even Waray women are macho. Sabi nga nila, ‘Bumangga ka na sa lalaking Waray, wag lang sa babae.”
In his childhood, Tito Boy lived in different places. During his early years, his home was in Baruk, Eastern Samar. Their family then transferred to Borongan, the place where he studied. His former school is now currently named as Eugenio Abunda Sr. Elementary School. During those years, as he truly accepted himself, he then confessed that he is really aware, without a doubt, that he was gay. He has courage as he was not afraid to show his true self.
Tito Boy admitted that in the past, he had little self-confidence which he concluded that it is because of the society’s expectations. Tito Boy shared, “I played their games, but I didn’t play basketball,” he said, referring to his colleagues in the seminary. “It was my biggest insecurity, kasi sa seminaryo at bayan, kapag hindi ka naglaro ng basketball, effeminate ka ‘di ba? The stereotypes, maaga pa lang sa buhay ko, na-expose na ako doon.”
Tito Boy also talked about his experience in bullying. He shared, “There was a street in my town, ang pangalan niya ay Royal, takot na takot ako na dumaan doon, kasi sinisigawan ka ng mga boses na ‘do mo nakikita ng ‘Bakla!’ Or, ‘Bayot, bayot!’ Of course, I would pretend not to hear but I was afraid.”
Tito Boy shared his 30-year relationship with Bong Quintana. He mentioned the challenges they faced. He said, “Bong is just so loved by Nanay and by my family…It was more difficult sa side ni Bong because Papa was a proud police officer. The irony is that n’ung umpisa, I wouldn’t go to Bong’s house because I didn’t want to put Bong in a predicament where he wouldn’t know what to do kasi he was raised in an extremely macho, athletic family.”
One Sunday, he joined Bong’s family for lunch where he discovered that Bong’s father he calls as “Papa” is actually his fan. “If my relationship with Papa at the start was very difficult, it turned out later to be the most beautiful relationship, as he turned out to be my biggest fan,” Tito Boy shared.
One of the things he is known for is his frank style of talking about “the deed”. He was interrogated on the subject about “the deed”, he answered “Can I talk about it?” and laughed. He said, “As a gay person, I take that seriously.” He proceeded, “wala talaga akong konsepto ng top or bottom. I should be honest kasi I ask questions, I should answer questions. I like the art of flirting, sa kiss masaya na ako, pero I don’t go for top or bottom. I don’t. I enjoy foreplay!”
